Kimbap workshop in Madrid
Kimbap workshop in Madrid
On 27 and 28 November, we organised a couple of cooking workshops on kimbap, a very popular Korean dish consisting of cooked rice and various fillings rolled up in a sheet of dried seaweed.
It is one of Korea's most iconic dishes, and we wanted to teach people how to make it because it is part of everyday life: it is eaten at picnics, on outings, when meeting up with friends, and it is often ordered for home delivery.
First, we gave a brief presentation to introduce ourselves and get to know the people who came to the workshop. Some had never cooked Korean food at home before, while others did so frequently. Some even followed our recipes!
Jaegeun showed everyone the steps to making good kimbap: how to prepare and season the rice correctly, how to cut and cook each ingredient, and most importantly... how to roll it!
He shared some tips and, after answering questions, it was time for them to make their own kimbap.
In this workshop, we made two types of kimbap: shiitake mushroom and tuna mayo.
After the demonstration, each student got down to work, and many of them prepared their own kimbap for the first time.
We thought that rolling it up would be one of the biggest challenges of the workshop, but surprisingly, everyone was very good at it.
Thank you for showing interest in Korean cuisine. It motivates us greatly to continue organising these types of events. We look forward to continuing to do things together with you. See you next time!
