Pepper jeon is a very typical dish for Chuseok, a family celebration comparable to Christmas in Spain. Here is the recipe so you can celebrate even when you are far from Korea.

Ingredients

  • 6 Italian green peppers
  • 3 eggs for batter
  • Soy sauce for dipping

For the filling

  • 300 g of meat
  • 150 g onion
  • 150 g of carrots
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 5 anchovy fillets
  • 1 egg
  • 5 g of flour
  • 5 g cornflour
  • Salt to taste

Step by step

  1. 1 Chop the onion, carrot, anchovy and garlic.
  2. 2 Mix everything together with the minced meat and add the egg, flour, cornflour and salt. Mix well until you have a smooth dough and set aside.
  3. 3 Using a knife, cut the green peppers in half and remove the seeds.
  4. 4 Flour the peppers.
  5. 5 Fill the peppers with the mixture. Sprinkle a light layer of flour on top and dip the stuffed part in beaten egg.
  6. 6 Cook the jeon in a frying pan with plenty of oil over medium heat.
  7. 7 When they are golden brown, turn them over, cover the pan and let them cook through.
  8. 8 Enjoy them freshly made, with a little soy sauce.
